Closed — Rebuilding
The historic Fort Myers Beach Pier was destroyed by Hurricane Ian in September 2022, and Lynn Hall Memorial Park is currently closed for reconstruction (through about summer 2027). A new pier is in permitting, with construction expected to begin in late 2026. There is no pier to fish here right now — the details below cover the history and the rebuild.
Lynn Hall Memorial Park & Fort Myers Beach Pier:
Lynn Hall Memorial Park sits at the foot of Times Square on Fort Myers Beach, on the site of the original Fort Myers Beach Pier that first went up in 1930. For decades the pier drew anglers, tourists and locals out over the Gulf, with pelicans overhead and dolphins, rays and jellyfish moving below. The park is named for Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy Lynn Hall.
Hurricane Ian changed everything. The Category 4 storm’s surge swept the barrier island on September 28, 2022, and the pier — which stood about 560 feet into the Gulf — was destroyed. More than three years later, Fort Myers Beach is rebuilding, and the pier is part of that comeback.
Lee County has approved a new, bigger pier on the same spot: about 1,000 feet long and 12 feet wide — roughly 70% longer and 50% wider than the one Ian took — built on reinforced concrete with three shade structures, fish-cleaning stations, ADA access and turtle-friendly lighting. Construction is expected to begin in late 2026 and take about a year, with the rebuilt park targeted for completion around 2027.
