Newport Fishing Pier:
The Newport Fishing Pier reaches 776 feet into the Atlantic at Sunny Isles Beach, just north of Miami. There has been a pier on this spot since 1936, and after Hurricane Wilma wrecked the old one in 2005, the current pier was rebuilt and reopened in 2013 — built tougher to stand up to the next storm.
It is a fully set-up fishing pier: rod holders, fish-cleaning tables and line-recycling stations line the deck, and a shop at the entrance rents rods and sells bait and tackle. At the base sits the Beach Bar, so you can grab a drink or a meal with the Atlantic under your feet.
Walking the pier is free for everyone. Fishing is free for Sunny Isles Beach residents and $10 for everyone else. A lifeguard is on duty during operating hours, and metered parking is available at Pier Park.
Anglers here pull in blue runners, Spanish mackerel, jack crevalle and other Atlantic species, with the action picking up through the cooler months. It can get busy when the restaurant is hopping, but mornings are calm and breezy.

Fishing at Newport Fishing Pier
Fish the rails for blue runners, jacks and Spanish mackerel, and work the deeper water toward the end for bigger migratory fish in the cooler months. Live shrimp, small jigs and Gotcha plugs are reliable. Mornings are the calmest time to fish before the restaurant crowd arrives.
