South Pointe Park Pier:
South Pointe Park Pier sits at the very southern tip of Miami Beach, right on Government Cut — the deep shipping channel where Biscayne Bay meets the Atlantic. The 450-foot pier is one of the best free fishing spots in Miami Beach, and it doubles as the closest you’ll get to the giant cruise ships that glide past just yards away as they leave PortMiami.
Because it sits on the channel, the water here gets deep fast, pulling in a real variety of fish. Anglers work the marked fishing sections and the rocks alongside for snapper, grouper, Spanish mackerel, jack crevalle, barracuda and black drum. There is no tackle shop on site, so bring your gear, bait and Florida license with you.
The pier has fish-cleaning stations, line-recycling bins, viewing stations and turtle-safe lighting, and the surrounding 17-acre South Pointe Park adds a splash pad, playground, dog park, restrooms, showers and wide lawns. It is all free, open sunrise to sunset.
Sunrise and sunset are the prime windows for both fishing and photos — the Miami skyline sits to the west and the open Atlantic to the east.

Fishing at South Pointe Park Pier
The deep water of Government Cut is the draw — fish the marked sections and the rocks alongside for snapper, mackerel and jacks, with bigger fish moving through on the tides. Live shrimp, small baitfish and jigs all produce. Fish the moving tide at dawn or dusk for the best shot.
