About This Spot
Sunset Park is a community sunset-viewing park on Vaca Cut with a small pier. Fishing from the pier is newly being added — the city funded a filet station, running water, and an ADA walkway in 2025–26. Here’s what to expect.
Sunset Park (Key Colony Beach):
Sunset Park sits at the end of West Ocean Drive in Key Colony Beach, a small island city in the middle Keys near Marathon. It overlooks the shallows where Vaca Cut meets the Atlantic, and as the name promises, it is one of the best sunset spots in the Keys — a grassy, palm-shaded park with benches all facing west and a small pier over the water.
For years the park was strictly for views — no fishing or swimming. That is changing: in 2025 the city secured grants to add a filet station, running water and an ADA-accessible walkway so anglers can fish from the end of the pier, and a refreshed park reopened in early 2026 with new shade sails and landscaping. As the mayor put it, Key Colony Beach ‘was founded on fishing.’
It is a free, family-friendly community spot rather than a big fishing pier — expect pelicans, herons and ospreys, live music at the Sunday concerts in season, and a mellow local crowd. Bring your own gear and Florida license, and check current signage on where fishing is allowed.
